How We Calculate “More Views”
On the page you see right after you post an ad, a number appears next to each package, e.g., “3× more views.” Here’s exactly how we calculate that number.
What we’re comparing
We take all the ads posted on Noiz over the last 12 months and divide them into four groups, based on what happened with each ad—not what the account bought:
Promoted — ads that received promotion
Featured — ads that were highlighted, without being promoted
Reposted — ads that were reposted to the top, either for free or through a paid boost
None — the comparison group: listings that received no promotion and were never boosted
Each ad is counted in only one group. If it received both promotion and highlighting, it is counted in the promoted group: its views are counted as a single number and are not split between the two groups.
We compare ads of the same age
This is the most important point. A listing’s views accumulate as long as it’s online, so an older listing has more views simply because it’s been up longer. And because sellers usually repost items that haven’t sold, reposted listings are, on average, much older than the rest.
That’s why we never compare all listings together. We only compare listings posted in the same month with each other, calculate the difference for each month separately, and then combine the twelve months into a single figure. Months with fewer than 30 listings in the comparison group aren’t counted at all, because they don’t provide any reliable information.
By category, when there is sufficient data
The comparison is made within the same noiz category (e.g., Amplifiers, Pedals & Effects), because a guitar and a cable aren’t comparable. To display a category’s score, we need at least 10 promoted listings and 100 in the comparison group. If the section is smaller, we display the number for the entire noiz — and state this explicitly.
What the number means for uploads
For reposts, the number describes what a repost does, whether it was free or paid: the data does not distinguish between the two. That’s why the line below says “based on N entries that were re-uploaded,” and not that N sellers bought something.
What We Don’t Show
A difference of less than 1.2× isn’t significant at all—it’s within the margin of error.
The number “N sellers chose it in the last month” counts the number of unique accounts that purchased the bundle in the last 30 days. If it’s below 20, we don’t display it.
The “Most Popular” label goes to the bundle with the most purchases in the last month.
What it means—and what it doesn’t
The number reflects what happened with promoted listings, not what we guarantee for yours. We check the age of the listing and ensure that the comparison group does not contain secretly promoted listings, but there’s one thing that can’t be eliminated in any fair way: sellers promote the listings they’re most interested in, and those often have better photos or a more accurate price from the start. Part of the difference is due to promotion and part to the ad itself. This is not a controlled experiment.
How often is it updated?
The numbers are recalculated every day.
Notes
Each purchase of a Featured or Highlighted listing applies to a specific listing. It cannot be transferred to another listing, and you are not allowed to change the product in the listing to “transfer” the promotion to something else.
Featured listings appear first in their section’s list, above all others—and above listings that have just been bumped up. The same applies to search results.
This priority applies to the default sorting order (newest first). If a visitor sorts the list, for example, by price, they’ll see the listings in the order they specified.
When there are multiple Promoted listings in a section, they appear in the order in which their promotion was activated, with the most recent one first. A bump-up does not change this order.
For payments made through Stripe: Your card information is entered directly into Stripe; it does not pass through Noiz’s servers, and we do not store any card information.
Refunds are issued only if a paid service was not delivered. Refunds are not issued because the listing was sold or withdrawn before the promotion expired.
Noiz Credits are not a wallet: they cannot be refunded as cash, transferred to another account, or do not expire.
Prices are subject to change. The price you see on the payment page at the time of purchase is always the one that applies.
